Back in September I stopped in to Big Creek Restoration in Ellis, KS to see what Mike Keller and company were up to. I figured they’d have something killer in the works and I was right. An incredible 34 was under construction, at the time a rolling chassis with a beautifully detailed Hemi between the rails. Now the body is back on and it’s looking really good!
Here’s the post from September.
This time around I took off in the middle of a snowstorm for the 120 or so miles out to Ellis, KS to meet up with Keller to see what had been going on in the last 2 months and to sit down with him to record an interview for the podcast.
The 34 project was coming along nicely. There doesn’t seem to be a single piece on the entire build that hasn’t been massaged in some way. Even off the shelf part have been modified to flow better, to look better, to work better.
In another room another 34 project is hanging out. It belongs to a friend of the shop and has a pretty cool power plant!
The shop is full of great vintage stuff, from old tvs pinball games, tool boxes and other things cool that have been collected over the years.
This great 29 roadster was at the Hot Rod Hill Climb.
Not only does Big Creek Restoration build some amazing hot rods and street rods that win national awards, but they do some amazing restorations.
The shop is fully equipped with mills, lathes, and every other piece of equipment that you could want. The lathe has a couple of pieces of Keller’s personal history onboard. The top lever sports a piston out of a YX80 that Keller got as a kid and shelled the engine (the bike is in the front room of the shop), and the shift knob seen at bottom was in one of Keller’s old rides.
