Last year I made the trek over to Herington, KS to the Throttle Jockeys Car Show and Drags for the first time. Herington is only about 40 miles from my house so a bit of a shorter drive for the Galaxie than the 635 each way last weekend. The Throttle Jockeys car club puts on a nice show in the business district of Herington with drag racing for anyone involved in the show in the afternoon. Like many areas of Kansas, Herington has a nearby WWII air base that still exists. It’s still in use today as the Herington Municipal Airport, but one leg of the triangle shaped runways now has a short drag strip set up. Look for drag pics later in the week, we’ll start with the car show part of the event.

The York boys showed up from Caldwell, KS and camped for the weekend to get the most out of their Herington experience and had nothing but good things to say about the small town hospitality that they were shown. They also told me about a couple of cars that were featured in Hot Rod Magazine in the 60’s and 70’s that are still in tact and local to them. I’ll be making a trip down to see the cars soon!
My dad’s 1928 Ford Speedster.
