Dec. 19, 2015 marked the 5th Annual Mid Decembrrrr Run that put on in central KS. This year we made a loop from my home town of Gypsum, KS over to Strong City, Emporia and back. We left Gypsum with almost 30 people and by the time we rolled into Emporia we were close to 40! It was a day of great times with great people and that’s why I do it.
We started the morning off with coffee and doughnuts at the new Blue Possum Lodge owned by my uncle Poverty Flats (Paul). I really appreciate him and my aunt Sandy for hosting the launching point of the run.
I put together some handy fliers for everyone with maps of the run, important phone numbers and info. Next year they will be bigger and better but they worked out well for this run.
From our hometown of Gypsum we headed east to Herington, KS for a fuel stop and to gather up some more folks before continuing over to Strong City, KS for a stop at a private garage with a ton of cool stuff.
From Strong City we continued East over to Emporia, KS. My girlfriend Michele has an amazing store named Studio 11 Boutique there that is kind of beyond any definition that I can come up with. It’s also centrally located near a bunch of great places to eat so it was the perfect spot to go to for lunch. Most of the crew stopped into the store and everyone that did told me how awesome it was and most bought something cool for their homes or as gifts before sampling some of the great food that Emporia has to offer. After lunch we gathered at Giger Street Rods on the south side of Emporia and hung out with some of the members of the Emporia Flatland Cruisers club.
From Giger’s we headed back up some 2 lane blacktop roads through the beautiful Flint Hills all the way back to Gypsum where we had dinner at Exit 14, our local diner. The plan had been to show a movie there but alas, I didn’t have the correct cable to hook up the DVD player so we just had to enjoy each other’s company while we ate. That wasn’t a problem at all.
All told it was about 200 miles round trip and everyone that I’ve talked to since has told me how much they really enjoy it. I can’t wait to see what we do next year :). I hope some of you in other parts of the country can do something similar, gather up family and friends and do a road trip!
See you at a show,
