So, it wasn’t totally a day off but this weekend I didn’t have anything on the books so I went down to hang out with some friends in Wichita. The Automobilia show is this weekend and honestly it’s not my favorite show. I go more to hang out with the people than see the show, it’s always too hot and too many looky-lou non car people.
I stared the day off at Deville’s Barber Shop and Shaving Parlor, it had been far too long since I’d been to see my buddy Elvis at Deville’s to get a hair cut.
After that I went down to Corey Conyers’ shop Crown Customs where Corey is working on a recreation of the iconic Hawaiian dragster. Corey’s 35 Ford greeted me when I got to his place, man o man what a car!
After years of working for a famous shop here in Wichita and a few years in California working for Cole Foster, now Corey is working out of a shop at his place. Conyers has turned out some amazing work out of that shop and he’s still going strong. There are no fancy tools, just a metric crap ton of talent.
After bothering Corey for an hour or so I went to a couple other friends’ places including Travis Chadwick’s Sinners And Saints Tattoo and later stopping in at Dennis McPhail’s Artist At Large Tattoo.
Then it was time to head over and hang out with my friends from the Primary’s Car Club at the Automobilia Show.
I didn’t shoot that many photos at the show but I did catch up with Jeff Myers and Jim Allen of Premier Body & Paint.
And I made it back over to the Primary’s area to see 3 new members do their initiation. Shooting a raw egg and then a shot of really horribly bad whiskey. Congrats Justin Titus, Corey Conyers & Cody Jacobson!
That was basically the day, and it was a good one. Wichita was good to me and I am seriously considering moving there.
See you at a show,
