Way back in 2010 I drove 9 hours into northwest Iowa for a first time show with no idea what I was getting myself into. My buddy John Wells was putting together the first ever Vintage Torque Fest, a car show with an indoor area for feature cars, a dirt track for the folks that wanted to take a couple of laps and a great vibe, something that many shows just don’t have.

48 Cars In 48 States : The Great American Road Trip – A 48 state road trip with a stop in each state to photograph a traditionally styled hot rod, kustom or drag vehicle. Daily updates will be posted here on royboyproductions.com so you can see where I’ve gone, who I’ve met, some of what I’ve seen. At the end of the trip I’ll produce a 200 page full color book of the entire adventure. Business Sponsorship Packages here available as well as you can pre-order the book here!
That first year was in Farley, IA, the next year the show was in Maquoketa, IA, after that the show was changed to a different weekend that conflicted with another event that I love to attend so I couldn’t make it back to Iowa for VTF until 2016. By then the show had found a new home just west of Dubuque.
Still the show has great cars, music, a swap meet, the indoor display for the feature cars, the dirt track and more. I’m bummed that I can’t make it this year but the scheduling conflict reared it’s ugly head again.
Date: May 5-6, 2017
Location : Dubuque County Fairgrounds, Dubuque, IA
If you want the full skinny on the 2017 Vintage Torque Fest you can find it on the official website here or on the official Facebook event page here.
The location may have changed, the weekend may have changed but the show has always been a way to raise money for Helping Hannah’s Heart Foundation. Please go here for more info on HHH. It’s a great cause!
Here are some photos from the three trips that I was able to make up to Iowa for VTF, it’s an amazing show and you should check it out if you’re anywhere in the area.
