48 Cars in 48 States #12 : Idaho

After a long drive from Colorado to Utah I woke up early for another long drive up to Post Falls, Idaho. Russ Freund’s Takeout T was my subject for Idaho, a car I’d last seen in person in 2011 at the Starbird show in Tulsa, OK. The car is still as beautiful today as it was then.

The drive took me north out of Salt Lake City up into Idaho, then across the border into Montana for a bit. The mountains had just received some snow the day before and it was kind of chilly. As I drove the cowl vents got pushed more and more closed and the heater got cranked up more and more. By the time that I stopped for fuel just west of Butte, MT when I got out of the car, it was cold (okay in 2 months that will seem warm, but at the time I was cold). During this section of the trip I crossed the Continental Divide two more times, however the elevation was not nearly what it was when I crossed it in Colorado. There’s some very beautiful country up in this part of our country, and not a ton of people, just the right amount of small towns to hit to get gas if you need it.

Shortly after that I hit some rain as I traversed the border back into Idaho and across the mountains. There was a bit of road construction, mixed with the rain and a classic car in the mountains and I was glad to get checked into my room and get a break from driving for the day.

Post Falls is in a beautiful area, and lucky for me my Washington car was just across the border about 15 minutes away. The rain subsided just enough to hop in the T and ride out to a location to shoot just before we lost the sun. Then it time for dinner and a couple of mixed drinks with Russ and John Gunsaulis, my Washington car owner.

Labor Day Weekend in KC is all about the Greaserama. Held out at the fairgrounds in Tracy, MO, it’s a great time with amazing cars, bands, artists, and people.

One of my favorite shows in the last few years has been Pistons And Paint in Denton, TX each November. Put it on your list!
