When I first started planning out this trip my friend TJ Wilson had just moved from Texas to Oregon. At that time he was in the eastern half of the state. Someone said that I HAD to go to the Columbia River Gorge and was bummed to see that my route wouldn’t take me there. But now TJ and family live in Salem, OR and I completely forgot about the suggestion to check out the Gorge until I crested a hill and started to descend into it.
I wasn’t able to take many photos, many of the exits were closed due to the forest fires and the east bound lanes were shut down completely on I-84, but that was some of the most breathtaking scenery of the whole trip so far.
That evening I got to Salem just in time for it to start raining again. TJ and family put me up for the night, and took me out for a bite to eat. The next morning I was able to sleep in, do some laundry, do some reading and just relax before going over to the technical high school where TJ teaches in the Auto course. It was great to see so many HS kids that were interested in a career in the automotive field and they seemed to really dig my old Galaxie.
