For the 4th and final installment of the 2016 Starbird-Devlin Car Show For Charity coverage we finish up the show. I remember when I was a kid, the entire show was in just the last two rooms of the original Century II building. So much kool in that building both this weekend and over the years!
For part 3 of the 2016 Starbird-Devlin Show Coverage we continue through the center of the show. Starting below you see Troy Pate’s split window Vette, a gorgeous Mercury and then we start in on the Magnificent 7 cars. Enjoy!
For the 2016 Starbird-Devlin Car Show For Charity I brought my 51 Ford for the first time. Picking it up from Jeff Myers at Premier Body & Paint in Arkansas City, KS and driving straight to the show for load in on Thursday. Seeing as the most I’d ever driven the ol’ girl was about 40 miles in a day at about 55mph, I was about to put the newly hooked up overdrive to the test. The old flathead was spinning fine and I made the trip from Ark City to Century II in Wichita in good time. I have some stuff to work out on wiring and the like and then the car is going to be pretty much done for a few months. There are some photos of it in this set of photo coverage.
The 2016 Starbird-Devlin show went down the weekend of Jan. 15-17th in Wichita, KS at Century II. The 59th annual event marked the first year that I brought my 51 Ford, a work in progress, to the event. The show’s proceeds go to support a handful of local charities, more on that in the coming days. Enjoy the photos!
For the final post of the 2016 Retro Rewind Dubuque coverage I went back through the show now that it was open and there were people around 😉 Some photos of the bands, more shots of the cars and bikes, people photos, awards photos and a couple of the pinup contest! Enjoy!
This week Royboy talks with Mike Alexander of Slam’d and Lift’d Magazine about making the jump from day job to a job you love, magazines and the future of magazines and more.
For part 3 of the 2016 Retro Rewind coverage we continue across the Five Flags Center. More awesome cars, more awesome bikes. Tons of great vendors and people everywhere.
The 2016 Retro Rewind in Dubuque, IA is physically a small event in a fairly small venue, but it’s HUGE on heart. That’s what the Retro Rewind, Vintage Torque Fest and Iron Invasion events are all about in a word, heart. John Wells and company put these events on to raise money for the 501(c)(3) Helping Hannah’s Heart Foundation. PLEASE go check out this foundation, it’s so very important that us in the hot rod and kustom world help out foundations like this that help out good hard working folks going through some of the toughest times in their lives.
My 2nd trip to Dubuque, IA for the Retro Rewind went down over the weekend of Jan. 9, 2016. The 3rd annual Retro Rewind was a lot of fun, even if I decided last minute to not bring my ride. The bitter cold may have kept my car (I wimped out after being sick all week) and some spectators away but there were still a ton of great cars, trucks, bikes, vendors, bands and awesome car people at the show.
2015 was a fun year! In total I traveled 25,768 miles in 2015 to events as far away from central Kansas as Austin, Indianapolis and Georgetown, Colorado. In 2016 I plan on cutting back a bit, and relying more on my friends out there that love to shoot car show photos as much as I do to help fill in when I can’t be everywhere. However, the first 3 months of 2016 are shaping up to be pretty awesome, here’s what I have planned for January.
The most viewed posts on Royboy Productions in 2015! These were YOUR favorite posts on the site this year. One of the posts in the top 10 wasn’t even from this year, that’s kinda crazy to me but it’s one of my favorite posts so I’m cool with it. Enjoy!
In this episode Royboy talks with the guy that started it all. Tiny of Set to Stun Productions. Get the skinny on what’s happening with the network and a hint of some stuff to come!
Dec. 19, 2015 marked the 5th Annual Mid Decembrrrr Run that put on in central KS. This year we made a loop from my home town of Gypsum, KS over to Strong City, Emporia and back. We left Gypsum with almost 30 people and by the time we rolled into Emporia we were close to 40! It was a day of great times with great people and that’s why I do it.
Every once in a while, you have to go it alone. In this episode Royboy tips a few stiff drinks back and answers listener questions submitted via social media.
I missed out on the legendary shows at the Go Away Garage 15 years ago, so when Dennis McPhail announced the Christmas Kustom Kulture Art Show at his Artist At Large Tattoo shop in Wichita, KS I knew that I needed to be there.
One of those bucket list shows that so many of us will never get to attend is the Mooneyes Japan show in Yokohama. My buddy John Wells of the Retro Rewind, Vintage Torque Fest and Iron Invasion has been going for years and this year was kind enough to send some photos over to me to share with all of you. I didn’t ask him until a bunch of the photos that he had taken were already spoken for so I’m super appreciative to him for carving a few out for us. I hope you enjoy them!
The 2nd annual Hot Rod Holiday went down in Springfield, MO December 4-6th. I couldn’t be there to cover the event so my buddy Cory McMahon went and grabbed some photos for all of us to enjoy.
