Hot Rods and Kustom Cars
Saturday morning of the Hot Rod Hill Climb I skipped breakfast at the hotel to get back downtown as soon as possible and start shooting photos. The sun was up but behind the mountains so the photos were fairly low light at first. The pancake feed had a huge line of people, it didn’t take long for the show part of the event to be overflowing with cars, and the crowd was overwhelming.
For exactly 1 year I’ve been regretting missing the 2013 Hot Rod Hill Climb. I made the choice to not make the 15 hour round trip and from the moment that photos started being posted online, I was full of regret. 2014 was my chance to make good and get myself there. I had no idea what I was in for.
When I heard that the 2014 Motorcycle Cannonball was making a stop in nearby Junction City, KS I decided to head over to check it out. I combed the parking lots of JC and found a few of these beauties. It was pretty dark but I got these images for you.
Time for the fifth and final post for the 2014 Starliner show. I hope to have features returning to the Friday slot soon, but I need to shoot them and write them first! What was your favorite photo from the 2014 Starliner?

Although it’s a small show car count wise, the 2014 Starliner made up for it in quality.
Over night some storms moved in to the area and didn’t really leave until about sun up. For anyone already in Wichita or coming from north of the KS-OK border the rain was a non-issue, for our friends that live in OK and had not come up yet it slowed some down and kept others at home altogether. The 2014 Starliner may have been a touch down on car count due to this, I didn’t see the final numbers but as you can see, some great cars were in attendance.
Joe’s place was the last stop on the Garage Krawl this year and it didn’t take long for a crowd to fill in. Lucky for us this was the perfect garage to gather a crowd at.
I’ve been lucky enough to attend all of the Starliner events so far. Since I’ve started spending the weekend at the host hotel with all of the out of towners this has become my favorite event of the year.
I’d planned on rolling out of the show around 5pm so that my trip home wouldn’t put me into football traffic. I was at least 90 minutes behind that schedule. The drive home was uneventful, I’d planned on being on the old 2 lane roads for most of the trip but once the sun went down I found myself on the interstate to make time. The 2014 Greaserama was awesome as always, thanks to the Los Punk Rods club for putting on a great event.

The more I walked around the more friends I found. Both the kind that I know and the kind that know me. I truly appreciate everyone that stops me and tells me that the follow the blog here or the podcast or any of my social media. This is one of those shows that I need to do in disguise so that I can catch the whole show. In the 7 or so hours I tried to make sure to take time with all of my friends and hang out as I could but I barely got the entire fairgrounds covered.
The show has gotten flack from some for moving from the drive in to the Platte County Fairgrounds. My take on it is the show has been very successful at the new venue and I like it…
Knowing that the Galaxie would probably overheat if I had to sit in a long line to get in, I figured out a shortcut to get passed some of the line of cars waiting to get into the show. I’d tell you but then it wouldn’t be a short cut ;). A piece of trim on the car has a screw that likes to work itself out and no less than 3 times on the drive to the show I had to stop and screw it back in. Some good friends that are somewhat locals to the area gave me instructions on how to find a local parts store that my phone didn’t know about and I was able to pick up some double sided tape to help keep the trim in place for the drive home.
Always on my must attend list of shows the 2014 Greaserama did not disappoint! I don’t have official numbers but wet thumb in the air guessing tells me it was the biggest Greaserama yet. I rolled out at about 8am in the Galaxie for the 180 miles from my house to the Platte County Fairgrounds in Tracy, MO.
After seeing some friends saying they were going to head out to the Kansas International Dragway for some “Throwback Drags” last Saturday night, I decided I needed to go check it out. I was in the area anyways for the Blacktop Nationals after hitting the Rev It Up show in Lawrence, KS that morning.

The weather was good, hot but a breeze helped. I was only able to stay for a couple of hours before I hopped in the car to drive to Wichita to catch another show.
I’ve been attending the Rev It Up! Hot Rod Hullabaloo show in Lawrence, KS off and on for years. The show has changed dates a few times and has seen it’s ups and downs weather wise. So I was a bit worried as I drove up to Lawrence for the 2014 edition of the show. What I found was more cars than I’d ever seen at the event before. Click here to see more photos from the show.

One of the great things of this event is how many cars come just to park in the “cool kids” parking lot. This post finishes off my trip through the preferred lot and heads back over to the drag racing action!
The temps were up as was the humidity. The only thing making the weather bearable was a breeze and some killer rides running down the track. The 2014 HAMB Drags was a blast all around.
