May 4-6, 2012 will be the 11th annual Stray Kat 500 in Dewey, OK. I don’t have much time to talk about this killer show right now so I’ll let the photos do the talking. For more info on the show go to straykatkustoms.com or go to the Facebook event page for the show here.
Without further ado, here’s the 2011 Stray Kat 500 photos, click on the slideshow to go to the photos if you’d prefer to view them in a gallery format.
Come check out one of the koolest most laid back shows anywhere, and hang with about 500 of the greatest folks on the planet. See you in Dewey! Travis
2011 was the first trip to the Lonestar Roundup for me. I was immediately hooked on the show. Being in Austin doesn’t hurt at all, that town is awesome and I rarely stray from either Congress St or my hotel :).
So here we are, it’s 2012, it’s 10:00pm on Wednesday night and I roll out for the roundup at 5:30am tomorrow…and I’m writing this 🙂 I wanted to share some photos from last year’s show so you had an idea of what’s to come. Over the next 4 days I’ll be shooting stills with my Nikon D90 and some video with various cameras, but I’ll also be taking some cell phone pics along the way. The 2012 Lonestar Roundup shots will be in this gallery, it’s pretty boring right now with just my logo as a placeholder.
So back to 2011, some H.A.M.B. members and Austin locals put together a killer garage crawl, I love these type events so of course I had to go on it (and stay to the back of the crowd in my modern daily driver as I will do again this year).
All of the photos posted below are part of the 2011 Lonestar Roundup Gallery, which is on sale until Monday at 40% off! Any print up to poster sizes, any download, any item listed in the “buy” button is on sale for 40% off just by entering the code “LSRU” at check out. Click on any of these photos to go to their page, and then look around at some of the over 700 photos in the total gallery.

Then it was time to hit the show itself!
A bad bad cabover
Okay that’s enough for now, you get the picture(s), this is a fantastic show and I hope that you enjoy the coverage and that you come check it out in the future.
Come along for the ride with me, see you at a show,
I haven’t posted here in a long time… almost a month. There just hasn’t been much going on.
I did get the honor of spending an afternoon with the Fundamentals club out of Wichita, 9 guys showed up and we filmed a 3 hour interview, talking about kustoms and hot rods and the old days. It was one of the coolest afternoons I’ve ever had.
Other than that March was a month of laying low, saving up some money for Austin for the Lonestar Roundup this weekend. I’ve been busy on Instagram, there will be a few photos below, and there is a 40% off sale going on for all of the 2011 Lonestar Roundup gallery (enter the code “LSRU” at checkout and get any print or download for 40% off, pretty sweet!).
In just 3 days my buddy Mongo and I will be rolling into Austin for the Lonestar Roundup! We’re stoked to get to make this trip, a 2nd for me and a first for him. It would be cooler to be taking the Galaxie but that just wasn’t possible budget wise, but we will be there and I will be wearing out my shutter finger trying to bring you all of the LSRU goodness.
If you haven’t already seen it yet here’s a new hat that came out this week. You can get it in 3 different styles of hats, in tons of different colors. The version pictured has been the most favorite so far but you can stand apart from the crowd by getting one of the other colors.
We’re just under a month away from the Stray Kat 500, so get your registrations in and meet us in Dewey, OK for one of the koolest parties on the planet. Here’s a couple shots of our buddies from Pushrod playing there last year.
Next week I’ll be sharing tons of photos from the Lonestar Roundup so be sure to check back in.
Wild week here for Royboy Productions! Saturday I took the new video crane over to shoot some of Jeff Bennett’s Rat built by Calvins Customs in Salina, KS, then I went down to McPherson, KS to film some of the frame construction of my buddy Mongo’s new hot rod pickup.
Right as I was heading for the door, it happened. A flaming ball of metal hit my right eye. No I was not wearing goggles, yes I should have been. After a considerable amount of stinging and quite a few tries at flushing the lil bugger out, I finally got it once I got myself home and I went off to bed.
Three hours later I find myself standing in front of my bathroom sink, not able to open my eyes. Oh crap, I kinda need those. Turns out in addition to the slag hit, I had inadvertently exposed my eyes to far too much UV…yeah I had welders burn. At the time I didn’t know it, I just knew that it was the middle of the night and I could’t see, so off to the ER I went, just to be safe. I had taken precautions to protect my eyes during most of the frame build, but I know me… I got careless when my monkey brain went oh oh oh oh I see what would be a cool shot and I moved myself out of my pre-thought position which was protecting my eyes from most of the UV. Monkey brain cost me a bunch of money that evening, not to mention the pain.
So not much was done in my world for most of the week, the day job took precedence, and I did little more than get the video footage transferred to the computer. There were some Instagram shots here and there like I always do you can follow royboyprods there to follow my shots. A mid week sale on any item in my portfolio and now a sale on the softcover version of my Best Of 2011 photo book.
I know the books are expensive, that’s a byproduct of them being 160 pages and printed by a print on demand publisher. Without investing a few thousand on my part there is just no way to get the price down. I will start producing some smaller cheaper books for folks that want them, keep on the lookout for that.
Right now it’s time to head out the door to Arkansas City, KS to Premier Body & Paint the shot of Jeff Myers to sit down with Jeff and talk about his beautiful Caddy and Galaxie. Both cars are way kool kustoms that are driven, should be a good day! Next weekend it’s off to Wichita to talk with some members of the legendary car club, the Fundamentals about Wichita’s hot rod and kustom history, also should be a very good day.
If you live within a decent drive of Salina, KS and you want a video produced of your kool kustom or hot rod, drop me a note here. I am looking to shoot a few for content on my site and will be glad to give you a discounted price because of it!
Have a great weekend, stay safe, and I’ll see you at a show,
No plans for a car show this weekend but I will be shooting a feature for this blog of my buddy’s very cool rat styled hot rod, there will be video and photos coming soon, keep on the lookout!
As always to see any of the 26,000 images from car shows across the midwest go to the Royboy Productions photo gallery, follow my adventures on Twitter, Facebook or subscribe to this blog.
This was my 2nd trip to the Park City Chill Bike and Car Show in Park City, KS just outside of Wichita. This is a nice indoor show with plenty to look at.
A few weeks ago Straykatkustoms (Mick) texted me that he was going to go to the National Rod & Custom Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and the announcement of the Fine Nine qualifiers for the Tulsa Starbird show. It took me about 5 minutes to decide that sounded like an interesting way to spend a Friday night and get my ticket ordered. I won’t be missing another one, what a great experience! Tons of great folks were in attendance and we heard some great stories about the inductees, it was very worth it! Continue reading “2012 Starbird Exotic Car Show, Tulsa, OK”
Follow along as I travel to over 35 events over 10,000 miles, shooting over 14,000 images to bring the best of the midwest hot rods and customs to my site, royboyproductions.com
From the Lonestar Roundup and Hot Rod Revolution shows in Austin, TX to the Hunnert Car Pileup in Decatur, IL with ton of stops in between, there are cars, trucks, dragsters from the midwest and both coasts represented throughout this book.
So come along on a fantastic year with me and have a look at the Best of 2011.
Wow! That’s the basis of my review of my weekend in Austin. Fantastic cars, killer music and most importantly some of the koolest people anywhere made this one of my best weekends all year.
Hey folks, once again I’ve scoured the thousands of car show coverage photos that I took this year to create some calendars to raise money for some great charities. I shoot the shots at the shows that I travel to across the midwest and beyond, I also do the layout, print them, bind them and ship them myself. As you can see, they are a bit different from your standard calendars and well worth the $15 if I do say so myself!
The Traditionals Edition will go to benefit Victory Junction Gang Camp for Kids, VJ is a summer camp for terminally ill children. Kyle and Patty Petty of NASCAR started the camp in memory of their son, racer Adam Petty as it was his dream to create a camp like this for kids that normally wouldn’t get the camp experience. With a fully functional hospital on site this is a truly unique experience for the campers.
The Trucks edition will go to the same charity, here’s some samples of it
There’s also an edition made from shots taken at Vintage Torque Fest that benefit Helping Hannah’s Heart. A great cause, a great show and a damn good time, so check the show out in 2012!
Shots from the Stray Kat 500 and the Starliner shows went into the Stray Kat Kustoms edition, proceeds from this one will go to the Red Cross. Stray Kat Kustoms shows are the most laid back shows you’ll ever run across, when you attend a Stray Kat show you are family. I love these shows and I’m proud to be able to cover them each year.
And finally the fantastic Greaserama show shots were combed for the Greaserama edition! This is one of the most fun shows anywhere, hang out all day in the drive in and once the sun goes down, watch kool movies! Labor Day weekend you’ll always find me at the Greaserama! Thanks for taking the time to check out my post, please buy a calendar or 12 as the proceeds all go to help great causes and some truly wonderful people. Just go to www.royboyproductions.com to find the paypal button to order them.
So I realized last night right after my post that there were about 80 or so pics that had not made it to the site yet. Those are in the process of uploading now, along with some fairly mediocre videos that I tried to shoot. I’ll share some of that with everyone later today. Leading up to last weekend there were lots of murmurs about the new weekend for the Rumble in Delano in Wichita, KS, in it’s 3rd year the show moved to late September from the middle of June. The first 2 years for the show were just plain hot, so it was a welcome change for that reason, however the new weekend falls on the same date as a long running show just 90 miles down the road. Due to some conflicts in my schedule I wasn’t able to hit both shows so after stopping by a local German Car Club show in Salina I went to Wichita for the Rumble and I was not disappointed.
