Part 3, finally home from a long day at work and dinner with the fam. The little nephews LOVE the 57! I got tired of waiting for people to clear out from around Gary’s 40… soooo sorry but they’re in the shot, it was too close to crop and look good.

Part 4
Still at the Pre-party on Friday night. By now it’s getting pretty dark so I switched to a lens with no zoom but a much larger aperture so I could try to still get some shots in the low light.

So, fast forward to 6am on Saturday morning. We figured it’s the last Hunnert there’s bound to be a ton of cars in line, so we headed out for the show early. This gorgeous Chevy was in the parking lot, turns out the owner also has a beautiful light blue 53 truck that was in my Trucks calendar last year.

Bob’s 32 pickup was leaving us in the dust on the way to the show, I think Dad was too scared to stand on his new gas pedal enough to catch up…

About 30 cars in line and the sun isn’t even up yet, gates open at 9am…

Bob and Dad wait in line, Dad’s 57 will be deemed too stock and will spend the day outside of the show. I’m not complaining it was fairly judged as per the rules posted for the show.

There’s part 4, 5 is on the way soon then I’m off to bed, thanks for checking them out folks, we haven’t even touched the surface yet! My hope is that those of you that didn’t make it can almost feel like you were there in some way, I hope you dig it.

Part 5, last one for the night folks.

This killer shoebox came complete with 2 kid seats in the back! Awesome, bring your kids to the shows, teach them young!

That’s it I’m out of energy, see you all in the morning for the next installment!

Okay the upload has begun again! Here’s part 2!Still hanging out at the Friday night Pre-Party for the 2011 Hunnert Car Pileup in Clinton, IL.

Lots of beautiful rides showed up, there were a bunch of muscle car and other off topic cars but I ignored most of them because that’s not what I’m into. Sorry if you want to see pics of them but most muscle cars are restored to the same condition as every other one and that’s boring to me…

Awesome 40!

Awesome to see Lit Up rolling! Very cool!!!!

It’s always good to see some of the Omaha boys! Gary’s 40 is just too kool.

Sorry not much commentary on this one, busy over my lunch hour! I’ll be back this evening with an update and the final shots of the pre-party!See you at a show!

First I want to say thanks to the Chrome Czars for putting on this show. A show this big takes a TON of logistics and it seemed to go off pretty smoothly. This was our third trip up for a Hunnert, starting with the 8th and last show in Morris, and it was a great time.

After making a deal to trade his 72 LeMans (and a little cash) with Bob from Top Notch Vehicles for a 57 Chevy Wagon, my old man (Povertyflats’ favorite brother in law) and I loaded the car up and headed out Thursday evening from Central KS. We got to the far side of KC before we called it a night. This made for a nice relaxing drive the rest of the way to Decatur, across MO on highway 36.

Some S.O.B. in a musclecar was tailgating us the whole way…

Crossing the Mississippi

I tried pulling some Family Vacation lines when we crossed the Mississippi…they were completely lost on my Dad…

Other than a bit of wind the weather was perfect and we arrived in Forsyth at the hotel ahead of schedule. We unloaded Dad’s Lemans and helped Bob unload the new to us 57 and a cherry 32 Ford Pickup.

The deal was made and the keys traded hands. Bob and Dad wondered if the car was too stock to get into the show or not. We agreed it probably was but it didn’t hurt to try.

It wasn’t long before we took off for Clinton, IL for the Friday night Pre-party.

This year’s pre-party was packed, so many more people that there really wasn’t a way to cruise, and a ton of really kool rides showed up too.

Everyone’s favorite guy BobK was in attendance of course, always good to see you and the Mrs. Bob!

As always, click on any of these shots to go to the full gallery. These will continue to be uploaded throughout the morning so the gallery will continue to grow until around noon Central today. Please consider buying a photo or two as a download or even a 4×6 print because every purchase helps me get to another show to bring you all more coverage!

Thanks for looking, see you at a show!

2011 Rumble in Delano show coverage and pics! Part 2-3

Part 2!

We start part 2 with Don’s beautiful Buick

And Mike’s kool Dynamic 88, he is selling this 4 door version but also has a way kool 2 door model.

I’m a big big fan of Rocky’s newest addition to his stable.

Some munchkin was rolling in style with this wagon.

This lil one is having all the fun.

Jeb brought his truck over, I need one just like it.

While he laid some lines on another

Cassie not only is half of the team that puts on the show but she brings her ride.

Jason of Red House Custom Paint in Derby brought his truck out.

Another H.A.M.B. er’s ride sorry I didn’t stop and meet the owner.

And another shot of Butch’s alternate ride

Now I’m just messing around with some filters

Mongo51’s well…51

The 40 is always fodder for some pics

H.A.M.B. proud

Johnny Hammond on hand to tell some stories and offer up some candy to the ladies.

Night falls a bit earlier in Sept. compared to June, but it gave the show a nice vibe.

That’s it folks, see you at a show

2011 Rumble in Delano show coverage and pics! Part 1

Leading up to last weekend there were lots of murmurs about the new weekend for the Rumble in Delano in Wichita, KS, in it’s 3rd year the show moved to late September from the middle of June. The first 2 years for the show were just plain hot, so it was a welcome change for that reason, however the new weekend falls on the same date as a long running show just 90 miles down the road. Due to some conflicts in my schedule I wasn’t able to hit both shows so after stopping by a local German Car Club show in Salina I went to Wichita for the Rumble and I was not disappointed.

As soon as I hit the edge of the Delano District I see some familiar rides and owners, I’d stumbled right into the middle of the Mulvane Marauders as they were parking.

Fuddpucker using his “other” one digit gesture…

The Delano District is just to the west of the Arkansas River on Douglas Street in Wichita, a cool old business district where they block off the street for a few blocks and all of the hoodlums bring their rides out to hang out. The September date made the temps just perfect.

Yblock292 brought his 40 out to play, but as he is prone to say, he’ll bring whichever car starts and has gas in it, there’s not a bad car in his collection so it’s all good Jack 🙂

I go to a lot of shows, and I just don’t see many Comet wagons, I dig it.

I never did see the owner of this under construction ride, but it’s a nice start!

Finkd brought out the Caddy… and told me I should buy it…Jeff, if I had the cash, it would already be in my garage. One of the most beautiful 57 Caddy’s ever built in my opinion.

McPhail brought out his new project, very kool, just love the shape of this bodystyle.

Some more of the Marauders rides, such a wide variety in this club, and all very kool kats to hang with.

I keep forgetting to ask how many gallons it takes to prime 8 carbs…

Straykatkustoms brought up the Merc to join in the festivities.

Butch left is sick green 56 Chevy gasser at home to show of this beauty.

That’s it for part 1, part 2 coming very soon.

Click on any pic to see the whole gallery now, please consider buying a print or download to help support me in my travels bringing you coverage from all over the midwest! In fact, use the code “delano” to get 50% off of any item created from this gallery, that offer is good only through 9/28/11 so order now if you want to save big.

Then we made our way to Red House Custom Paint in Derby, KS

Next up for our gang on the Garage Krawl was Red House Custom Paint in Derby, KS. Jason of Redhouse is an amazing artist, this was more art gallery than anything else! Too kool to see all of these awesome pieces, I had to buy a shirt too!

Then we were off to Iron Buffalo Hot Rods at Joe’s place. Now, Joe has a killer place a bunch of cool cars and he has a 2900 lb bull that he brought out for everyone. Here’s Drew Carlson of Chaotic Customs in Mulvane, KS taming the savage beast…
Then it was off to Joe's ranch to check out his shop. He had a 2900 lb. bull on hand for some photo opps. Drew is doing the famous

Every cowboy needs chaps…

Love this truck, y block power and a killer stance.

Then much like last weekend at the Greaserama, the rain came… by the time I got to the Galaxie to roll up the windows it was hailing!
It wasn't long before the beautiful skies that had been threatening rain all day finally gave up some much needed moisture. Many area ponds have been completely dry for a long time. Right about now I'm wondering if my Galaxie windows are open or not.

And it frickin pooooooooured….
Right about now I remember that the Galaxie windows were down....here hold my camera...time to run.

But soon it cleared

Royboy’s Coverage of the 2011 Starliner and Garage Krawl Part 1-2

It’s been a busy week for me when it comes to posting. The KC Goodguys and Greaserama threads finally went up and now it’s Starliner time!

This was my first Garage Krawl so I was excited, at Yblock292’s (Jack’s) place his 29 and 40 were waiting outside while his 30’s were in the garage.

Jack's 29 and 40 waiting for the evening's guests for the party. His stock and hot rodded 30's sit in the garage.

From there I went to the host hotel, one of the first cars that I saw was Krobe’s way kool Chevy Fastback.

Tons of folks from as far away as Arkansas and of course the large contingent from Colorado were on hand for the Starliner weekend.

Part 5, Sunday at the 2011 Greaserama!

Yes I know I’m obsessed with shooting Firestone Tires lol

And this car, but it’s too awesome for me to not shoot it over and over again.

Here’s Don’s 53, great guy that I’ve been honored to get to know a bit these last few shows.

Sunday the crowd was not as big as Saturday but there were still a ton of people in the Drive In

The lack of cars and people on Sunday early made the pictures better in my opinion.

Love this fellow H.A.M.B.er’s truck!

Then I stopped by and hung out with Ben Dragdaddy’s and his wife again, watched Ben work some of his magic…

There were a handful of bettys walking around taking shots with a few photographers, sorry I had to sneak one shot while they were there and posing for someone else. I shouldn’t have but I did.

Okay just finished posting my coverage of the Goodguys show across town, you can see it here. But this thread ain’t about no Goodguys it’s about Los Punk Rods and the 2011 Greaserama at Boulevard Drive In in Merriam, KS.

I stopped by to visit Ben Dragdaddy’s and peered over his shoulder to see what he was working on. Check out Ben’s art and buy some, I try to buy some every year!

The forecasted rain finally found us.

Yes I showed this pair of kool rides in the Goodguys coverage, and yes I’m showing it again.

Different… but I can see some cool there. I don’t know if it’s an original ute or a built one though.

Here’s Herb….and he’s not sleeping! Always good to see you, my friend!

Rain found us again! My friends from about Wichita on south deep into Texas would love to see some moisture so I’m not going to complain about 3 little showers while we’re at the koolest show in KC!

Hmmm, so the sun is out and it’s POURING…yup love those days.

Rain’s over…. for now… let’s cruise the Greaserama!

Super sweet Chebby!

The only hot rodded Hupmobile I’ve ever seen, all covered up due to the rain, I bet the louvered roof panel doesn’t lend itself well to the rain.

This first one is just for my Dad, okay so I like it too.

Different truck but this was too kool to not share.

We all know this amazing truck!

Had to grab one more shot as I rolled out of the show on Saturday.

Not 100% H.A.M.B. friendly by some standards, but that Ford Cammer motor is kool enough to share in my book.

I teased it before, here’s some more of one clean clean ride.

That’s it for my coverage of the 2011 KC Goodguys. I had a good time, got to hang with family and friends and got to see some cool cars that I wouldn’t have otherwise seen. I’ll start the Greaserama coverage before I sack out tonight, same weekend, same town, totally different vibe.

See ya at a show,

Travis

Part 3!

Okay, I’d not seen one of these Aussie Ute’s before but this was totally bitchin!

Wish I had some more info on this one, looks like a cool ride.

The art on the trunk is too kool tooo

Diggin it!

More on this one from Sunday’s shots but here’s a teaser for now

I’ve been digging this truck for a few years, still haven’t had a chance to catch up with the owners yet.

Pretty damn fine pick-em-up truck here folks

Not much commentary on this post, not my normal over-talkative self tonight haha.

That’s it for part 3, See ya at at show!

Royboy Productions at the 2011 Kansas City Goodguys Part 2

Part 2 of the KC Goodguys coverage continues on in the sweltering Friday heat. We had some records set this year for most days over 100 degrees since 1936 or something like that. My electric bill certainly shows that I was losing the battle on the heat front.

I see this car all over and I’m always glad to check it out.

Fell in love right here…

Gotta love this magical mystery Merc Wagon

Ok, so it’s neither rod nor kustom but something about it tripped my kool circuit breaker.

Love the Cameo’s thanks to Dad having a couple of them (that need some time in the resto shop)

Some may see the patina and call this a rat of sorts, call it what you want, it’s one of my favorite combos to photograph at any show I see it at. The bike is just outstanding, the car is kool as hell and the trailer ain’t bad either. Plus you throw in a kool guy that owns it and what more can ya really ask for?

Like I said before, love the Rivi’s!!!

The lil wagon is too cute.

Another way kustom Merc.

Here’s some of the Omaha contingent, good to see ya as always guys!

That’s it for this update, part 3 will come later tonight. Elsewhere I’ll start a thread for the Greaserama and the Starliner shows as well so keep an eye out for them!

Thanks for checking the shots out and all of the comments, see ya at a show,

Travis

Royboy Productions at the 2011 Kansas City Goodguys Part 1

So it’s a week late but here we go! My Labor Day weekend in Kansas City started off Friday morning when my uncle Paul (povertyflats) and I headed out from Gypsum for KC.

We stopped for lunch in Lawrence with BlacktopBuddha and his daughter at a great mexican joint, then it was off to the Kansas Speedway for the Goodguys show.

I wasn’t going to enter… but logistics and the cost of entry for 3 days just convinced me to go full tilt, get the big boy package and let’s see what Goodguys has to offer. The price was steep at $90 but it is very expensive to rent race tracks, produce magazines and the like, so I’m not complaining…much.

The cars weren’t overflowing the speedway at any point during the weekend but it was 106 degrees when I finally emerged from the tunnel into the track’s infield.

This ride isn’t exactly H.A.M.B. friendly but take the skull off the radiator and paint it and I wouldn’t mind taking it for a spin.

Love me a Rivi,

Can’t go wrong with this beauty.

Here’s my dad’s 39 Chevy Truck, my Galaxie, Uncle Tom’s 46, Rick’s 57 Chevy and Robert’s 56 all in a pretty little row.

Here’s a better shot of Robert’s 56, beautiful ride that’s really well put together.

And Dad’s 39

Some shoebox action for ya

Mmmmmmmmmmm Merc!

That’s it for Part 1 keep an eye out for part 2 and the Greaserama coverage as well!

It’s always going to be a good time with the McGregor Boys show up

The same could be said about the South Omaha Turds

Mark & Dianne Sax brought out the Skull Orchard Express for a few passes

Eric and his HellWagon, I did not get to watch the pass where he spun 360 in the middle of the track at about the 1000 ft mark but I bet it was a hell of a ride.

Was this the pass that claimed the life of one of the Galaxie’s axles? Damn good thinking to bring along spares!

Here’s Nate getting his timeslip

As always if you dig a shot, please consider hitting the buy button on my site, every download or print helps me get to the next event to cover more for everyone. I have 0 free weekends between now and Thanksgiving, it’s going to be a busy/expensive Fall but I do love it!

We begin Part 2 with a look around at the track, this was one of the purdiest lines of cars ever assembled…

One of Povertyflats’ motorized bikes…. I may have to travel all the way acrossed town (4 blocks or so) and take this bad boy for a ride!

Povertyflats’ tent is always a central spot for socializing.

Gotta love Bill Moore’s kool kustom

Well lookie what we have here…

A lil video for ya (click on it to go to the video player, sorry I haven’t figured out how to embed the video directly yet)

Part 3 coming soon…

Part 3!

I told them I would blur the background…I will but it’s funnier to post it this way first hahaha Sorry Uncle Paul!

I’ll try to post parts 4-5 later tonight and I’ll get into the videos more finally.

Part 1Part 2-3 | Part 4-5 | Part 6 | Part 7

Wow! First off I have to say, I had a great time this weekend at the 2011 H.A.M.B. Drags! So many of my great friends, so many cool cars, and some fun on the dragstrip, what more could a fella ask for?

I struck out from the middle of Kansas around 7 on Friday evening heading southeast towards Joplin, a stop or two along the way and by 12:30 I was relaxing in my hotel room.

Saturday Morning I went out and trolled the parking lot, my first peek out of the window I see this beauty.

Heading out in the parking lot I a see is our family’s friend Robert’s 56 Chevy, that’s a good way to start the day.

Some last minute wrenching going on in the hotel parking lot.

Lots of killer rides out in the parking lots

This is perhaps the oddest pairing that I’ve ever seen side by side and I dig it!

Hot rodding is good family fun, that rumble seat is full!

Some creative thinking provided my dad & friends with some shade and the height of the bleachers.

Uncle Povertyflats and Bobwop had some space where Pov was selling some of his swap meet items and had some motorized bikes on display.

Ben Dragdaddy was on hand with his always killer art!

The track was prepped and ready for action!

That’s part 1, I’ll be back when I get off of work to show some more, click on any of the shots to see the full gallery and videos!
