Day 4 of the #48Cars48States trip I started on the south side of Nashville in Franklin, TN and right after the rain started I shot southwest to Walls, MS. Walls is just south of Memphis, and the shoot was just barely into MS, but barely counts!

There’s not a ton to share from today’s travels so I apologize for the short post. Day 3 I awoke in Lexington, KY and made my way over to the beautiful Paris, KY to meet up with Lee Ingram and his 36 Ford. We found a couple of cool spots that he’d scoped out and shot some photos before going to grab some breakfast and sitting down to record a bit for the podcast.

Day 1 of the 48 Cars 48 States trip I got to visit my friends of the Los Punk Rods club at the Greaserama in Tracy, MO. If you want to see the coverage from that event, click here. After the Greaserama visit I hopped in the Galaxie and pointed it east on I-70 through Missouri, across the Mississippi River at St. Louis and then over to Mount Vernon, IL.

You read that title right. As of the writing of this post (1am Monday morning), the camper will not be making the 48 Cars 48 States trip. I’ll tell you why, but please don’t think of this as me soliticing advice. I have neither the time nor the money to try to get this fixed this week, so I appreciate all of the advice but I still have 50 hours of work at the desk to put in this week and packing, planning etc.

I’m a bit tardy on this update on the camper, but only because I was so busy working on it that I couldn’t take the time to sit and write this up! Since the last update I’ve gotten the camper on the road again and made my first road trip with it. 1400 miles rolled under her since leaving the garage a couple of weeks ago and there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Time for an update on the restoration of my camper Irene. When this whole thing started I thought I’d purchased a fairly solid old camper, I had no idea how deep the rotted wood went. That’s pretty much the case with most campers that have wood rot. As of the writing of this post there are only two panels left to replace then I can seal the wood, wrap it in insulation and then reinstall all of the exterior tin.

A few months ago I announced to the world that I was going to do something big and awesome in 2017. The plan is simple, I’m going to hop in the Galaxie, with the canned ham camper on the back and I’m going to hit all lower 48 states in one monster road trip of a life time.

This weekend I finally got to tear in to the camper to fix some of the rotted wood. Most old campers have some rotted wood, this one had more than I bargained for…

For those that don’t listen to my Chrome Pipes & Pinstripes Podcast, well first of all why the hell don’t you? Each week I have guests on to tell stories and talk about the cool stuff that goes on in the rod and kustom world. Anyways, for those that don’t listen you may wonder what the whole 48 Cars in 48 States thing is. Or maybe you don’t know about it at all. Either way, this post is for you. I’m going to lay out the basic plan of an idea that has been rolling around in my brain for a few years. An idea that will take shape over the next 10 or so months leading up to the biggest adventure of my life.
