Mid Decembrrrr Run History

Back in 2010 I got the bright idea that I wanted to organize a fun run. The problem was I didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes and schedule my event the same weekend as theirs, so when could I put it on? How about the middle of December??? After a phone call with Mickey from Stray Kat Kustoms I even had a cool name for the event and the Mid Decembrrrr Run was born!

2010

The first year we started as we do most years here in my home town of Gypsum, KS and we went on about 120 mile drive that took us to the McPherson College for a tour of their Auto Restoration program facilities, then over to Marquette, KS to the Kansas Motorcycle Museum (an awesome way to spend an afternoon by the way), then we took a kind of roundabout loop up to old highway 40 and back in to Salina. Once in Salina we went to Calvins Customs for a visit, then the Paramount Bar for some food and finally to the Stiefel Theatre to watch the 2010 KKOA Leadsled Spectacular DVD by Vintage Torque.

2011

For 2011 we again started in my small town, but this time we went east. Taking the old 2 lane roads over to Herington, KS where we met up with a group and then up to the tiny town of Dwight, KS before taking a gorgeous mildly twisty, hilly and scenic road up to the Junction City area. We all went to lunch, then took some more scenic roads over to Chapman, KS to the Kansas Motor Racing Museum  before following Old 40 back to Salina to Calvin’s and then the Paramount Bar.

2012

2012 saw us back on Old 40 AGAIN! This time we started at Calvin’s shop and headed out west of Salina on Old US 40 all of the way to Ellis, KS to Big Creek Restoration, this was a long drive about 250 miles round trip. We had a good group of cars though and although it was chilly, it wasn’t nearly as cold as the first year’s 13 degrees. We returned to Salina along the same path and of course met at the Paramount Bar to watch a DVD, enjoy some chili and hot dogs and some drinks.

(no photos because I had my two nephews all to myself that day and didn’t have much time for photos!)

2013

For the 2013 run we didn’t drive nearly as far, only about 100 miles in total, but we saw some scenery, had a great lunch together and then went to the Eisenhower Presidential Museum in Abilene, KS before rolling back to Salina to the Paramount to watch a movie. We all got to watch “This Is Longbeach” by Brian Darwas as we enjoyed company, dinner and drinks.

2014

For this year we’re heading to Hutchinson, KS. The first stop will be at Johnny Torres Upholstery, from there we may have another shop visit, but that’s not confirmed. Then we’ll head off to the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Museum, this is a special treat. It is a world class space museum that is sure to be fun and warm and we’ll get to hang out as a group. From the Cosmosphere we’ll head to Salina and the Paramount of course!
