2011 Stray Kat 500 Coverage Parts 7-9

Part 7ish!
Studebaker trucks are kinda rare when you compare the numbers produced to the the numbers of the Big 3 but this show was so kool that there were 4 of them. Here’s one that belongs to the folks from Pro-Chrome.

I think the car that came the farthest was this killer long roof all the way from MN. My memory is bad, it could be WI but I’m just going to make a decision and say MN haha. Mickey said there were cars representing 12 states at this year’s Stray Kat 500.

It’s always a pleasure to see the Toad!

Custom cars aren’t the only thing that the Carlson family can do well…
2011StrayKat500_0569

While the yo-yo show was a-happening on the stage, Mike from Pushrod decided it was the time to try a new version of slide guitar. He might have miscalculated the temperature of the slide surface though, hope that skin grows back soon Mike!

Toptinman’s beautiful wagon…looooove this car!

I had to capture a few impromptu pics of the folks rolling out on Saturday. I realized that I’d spent so much time talking and hanging out with friends that I had probably slacked off on covering the show. It’s tough to “work” when literally everywhere you look you see someone that you want to talk to!

Part 8 – Saturday night into Sunday morning

About a month ago one of the best people on the planet was hit with a stroke. Gloria’s a big fan of flamingos so our very own Jack (yblock292), Chris Carlson of Chaotic Customs and a couple of others got together on a little project for her. Sorry I don’t know all of the names that contributed, but I’ll add them to this post if someone can fill in the blanks. Get well soon Gloria we love ya and miss ya!

One of the best parts of a lot of shows is the hangout time back at the hotels, the thing about the Stray Kat 500 is that the whole thing is like that, so the hotel time is just that much better.

Back at the hotel, more margaritas were being served off the nail head powered margarita mixer!
2011StrayKat500_0683

Then Chris Carlson gave us all a lil fire show. No propane injection here, just the good old fashioned way of lighting up the night sky.

Pushrod played another set for us all, well for all of us that could squeeze in the room! Most of us stayed up too late and got up too early but we can sleep Monday at work right?

2011StrayKat500_0725

Sunday morning bright and early I spied one of my favorite woodies ever, this 49 was just fantastic, I believe that Jimmy (gonmad) said that this car has been together for a long long time. It doesn’t look any worse for the decades of wear, that’s for sure.

A couple of the Pushrods boys cars with some guy’s Galaxie in the background.

A great example of the iconic Merc

Then it was off to the show site again for some more Stray Kat 500.
I met up with the Lackore’s and their Whale for a couple of photos, the sun was not cooperating (wasn’t up high enough for the original location) and the cars were rolling in fast so I picked this alternate location.

Now the sun is where I want it, Steve was nice enough to pull his 40 up in front of the historic Dewey Hotel.

Part 9

Sunday morning it was time for the Blessing of the Rides. Duke gave a short devotion and then Stray Kat members came around to each car giving a little prayer to get us all home safely and distribute a cool Ron Myers created/B Scott produced dash plaque.

This 64 Galaxie 500 had a very nicely done pearl white paint job, just loved staring at it every time I saw it over the weekend.
2011StrayKat500_0770

Had to take another shot of my car…
2011StrayKat500_0772

This killer 49 wowed a bunch of us all weekend long. One of the Kustom Kings from Texas.
2011StrayKat500_0775

Then it was time for the awards presentation. Stray Kat shows are a bit different, there are no classes, no judging in the regular “you’ve got the wrong kind of screw here or there” sense. Mick’s trophies are kool and given out for kool reasons. If you want to find out more, you’ll have to come next year now won’t ya?

Everett was our MC for the weekend as always
2011StrayKat500_0786

Mickey and Gene Winfield, thanks for coming Gene!
2011StrayKat500_0795

Mickey and Miss Outdoor Oklahoma… Sorry Mick but we’d all rather look at her handing out awards than you doing it.

Harry’s T is just plain cool!
2011StrayKat500_1003

2011StrayKat500_1009

Chris Carlson of Chaotic Custom’s 60 Pontiac, this car hauled 6 people around all weekend long and looked great doing it!
2011StrayKat500_1046

That’s about it for my 2011 Stray Kat 500 coverage, thanks to everyone who had a hand in making it a fantastic weekend. From my family to my extended Stray Kat Family thank you for a great time!

See you at a show,

Travis
