I wasn’t sure this one was gonna happen for me. The forecast for the two weeks above the show was gloomy. It just wouldn’t clear up! Then on the Thursday before the show an ice storm covered most of Oklahoma and North Texas while it dumped snow on me in Kansas. It was not looking good for leaving Thursday after work so that I could get to the Reliability Run on Friday.

So… on Thursday evening…. I wussed out. I stayed home, I texted friends that were already at the event and I told them that the weather was keeping me away. I went to bed dejected and disappointed in myself for wimping out.

6 hours later I changed my mind.

Friday morning when I woke up I realized that even if I didn’t make it, that would make a great story! Besides, 10 year ago Royboy would kick today Royboy’s butt for not going and I just couldn’t be that guy.  So I called my gf and asked her to watch my dog, hopped in my car and headed south. I was expected for slick nasty roads full of people who don’t know how to drive in slick conditions on bald tires.

What I found was perfectly clear roads all of the way to Wimberley.

Now, as you can see above… had I driven down on Thursday night, things would have been a bit more treacherous. In the last 40 miles of OK there were 5 cars on their sides or tops in the median or at the shoulder, and that’s just the ones that were still there and that hadn’t slid down off the highway.

By 6pm I was in Wimberley and already checking out all of the cool cars that were already there. Plus tons of great friends from across the country were there. A few of us gathered up and went to Salt Lick for some BBQ and good times.

Saturday the chilly weather that was promised was in full effect, and early in the day the rain started. It did rain off and on all day long and that kinda stinks, but it was great to hang out with so many diehards that were willing to drive to the show to hang out in the rain with other diehards.
