2015 Lonestar Roundup Pt. 1 Coverage Brought To You By Owens Salvage Co.

I’ve been attending the Lonestar Roundup since 2011 and I have a better time each succeeding year. This year I drove my Galaxie down for the 2nd time in the 3 years that I’ve taken the car to the show. I was honored when I got an email a week ago that my car was chosen to be in the featured area of the show, so Wednesday evening I headed out for Texas after the day job. By 1:30 am I was rolling into Van Alstyne, TX to stay with my friends Jeff & Verna. They are awesome enough to always have a spare room for me to bunk in, as many of my north Texas friends have offered. By 7:30 we were rolling south to meet up with some other friends on the drive to Austin.

The 2015 Lonestar Roundup coverage is brought to by my friends at Owens Salvage in Wellington, TX. Bob has 65 acres with tons of cars that have the parts you need for your next project. Find them on Facebook here or on their website here.

Meatheads Pre-LSRU BBQ | Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5

I peeled off from the group and made my way to the Meatheads CC BBQ which I covered here. The forecast for the weekend had been rain, thunderstorms and hail for a few days so we were all happy to have a great afternoon of hanging out, eating BBQ, listening to music and checking out the cars. The rain stayed away until the BBQ was over on Thursday, and it didn’t last long once it hit.

Later that evening we attended the Jalopy Journal book release party on Congress Ave. Friends from all over the country were there and I had a blast, this was to be a theme for the weekend. Friday morning the show began! Still apprehensive about the weather forecast I skipped the garage crawl to head straight into the show to get as many photos as possible before the weather showed up. Again it held off until late afternoon so the show made it relatively unscathed.

The afternoon was not without incident however. Mercury Charlie had a horrible accident leaving the show in the rain. He is in the hospital now and will be on the mend for awhile but things are looking good for a recovery. The car he was in did not fair so well. In the end, oh well, cars can be recreated, there’s only one of each of us. Please keep Charlie and his friends & family in your thoughts and prayers. If you can spare a few dollars to help him out please consider donating to this GoFundMe campaign set up to help him cover expenses in this trying situation. Get well soon Charlie!

Roy Drapal sitting next to the Model A he built almost 70 years ago in a garage with no electricity or heat. way ahead of its time in styling and super kool. Thanks for coming down from Nebraska to show it off and congrats on your two awards this weekend!
