Wow! It was a great weekend for me at the 2011 KKOA Leadsled Spectacular in Salina, KS! This is basically a home town show being 20 miles from home and I took as full advantage of that as my body would allow. Starting with going in on Wednesday night to see the early arrivers and enjoying the 107 to 83 degree drop in 15 or so minutes when a storm came through. Sitting around having fun at the hotel during the Stray Kat 500 this year a few of us thought it would be a good idea to do SOMETHING, anything in between the 500 and the KKOA in Salina. We all have shows we were going to do but something where we actually did something with our rides would be great. The idea was brought to Finkd’s attention and he took the ball and ran with it. He’d done a cool run last fall when Ian Berky was up at Premier Body & Paint in Arkansas City, KS and had been wanting to do another run anyways so the stars lined up for us all and the run was planned. Pete & Jakes Hot Rod Parts hosted their annual Open House Car Show on May 14th in Peculiar, MO. A bunch of stripers were on hand (oh how much more fun would this sentence be with one additional “p” huh?) and a ton of cool cars/folks that build & own them. There was an auction of a ton of striped stuff to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. That’s a good cause, help support them if ya can.

For a couple of years I’d heard of the Lonestar Roundup in Austin, it always sounded like a great time, so this year I figured why not check it out? Damn I’m glad that I did! A bunch of my hotrod/kustom friends were going from all over the U.S. this was shaping up to be a great time….it was!
