Man, what a great weekend! The Greaserama moved this year from it’s long time venue to a new one that was outside of KC, many denounced the move but the crowd that showed up on Saturday proved that change can be good. I’m writing an article for a magazine on the show so I’ll save most of my words of the event for that, here the photos will do the talking.

From time to time in my car show coverage, I like to spend a little extra editing time on a shot. Most of these end up in this gallery. Here are a few of my favorites, these would look great printed on metallic paper in 12×18 or larger on your wall. Especially the HDR shots, they really pop on the metallic paper. Still one of my favorite shows that I’ve ever attended. The cars, the venue, the bands, everything just came together to make it a fantastic weekend. The Hot Rod Revolution in 2010 was the first year for the show in Austin, TX, it’s only about a 9 hour drive so it sounded like a great excuse to drive down and check it out. Leaving home at 6:15 pm I checked in to my hotel room at around 3:30am and went to sleep, 6 hours later I was headed to the show. The City of Austin Seaholm Power Plant made for a perfect backdrop of about 100 hot rods. 1948 and older only, traditional hot rod styling only, this show couldn’t help but be awesome. Since then the show has moved to a new location in Austin at Camp Maybre. I attended the 2011 show there and shot photos that can be seen here. The show’s date has moved around and has conflicted with other shows that I needed to attend since and I’ve not been able to go again. Hopefully one of these years I can get back to it because it’s a great show of my favorite type of hot rods.
So one day not too long ago I get invited on Facebook to an Open House at a shop I didn’t know in Wichita, KS. The open house was the same day as another event that I was attending a few blocks away so it’s a no brainer that I’m going to stop in if at all possible. Clutch Rod And Custom at 406 S. Market in Wichita, KS was the shop. I’m glad I stopped in. As I’m told, the shop is an old Mercury dealership, I’d love to see the spacious facility filled with bathtub Mercs! The front display room had a couple of cars in it and every available surface was covered in art by different kulture artists. The cars on display in the shop were top notch, I didn’t get much chance to talk to the folks at the shop as they were busy running the Open House, but I did get to spend some time with my good buddy Ben Dragdaddy (facebook) and his lovely wife and my fellow photographer and buddy Grant Cox. I expect you to go to their pages on FB and follow their feeds, you won’t be disappointed.

Coming up September 28th in Wichita, KS is the 6th annual Rumble (formerly the Rumble in Delano)! The show has a new venue this year, moving to the street where some of the first kustom kulture art shows in the area were held at the Go Away Garage.
This show has been a lot of fun to attend over the last few years, the date’s changed and now the venue but I have a feeling the show will continue to get better and better.
The show runs from 1pm to 8pm and will be at 508 S Commerce St. in Downtown Wichita, KS. There will be hot rods, kustoms, bikes and more on display. The Pin-up Pagent is open to ladies 18 and up and there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd, go here for more info. 4 bands will take the stage at various points in the event including Sucker, Callahan Band, TheTerminals & The Trip Daddy’s. The theatre room of Century II was full of some fantastic vintage racers of all types. From midgets to a fresh from Bonneville racer, everything you could think of was in the building.

This car was at Bonneville earlier in the month, on the 2nd day while running 249mph something went wrong, the car ended up rolling 17 times before it came to a stop. The driver is banged up but okay.

The 4th Annual Blacktop Nationals went down this weekend Aug. 23-25 in Wichita, KS. Based in the area of Century II in downtown Wichita the show stretches out across the Arkansas River to the west and to the south of Century II as well. The show welcomes all kinds of vehicles and has them out in the streets and inside of Century II as well. A road course is set up to the south of Century II for some ride alongs in new Ford Mustangs. Ford is one of the major sponsors of the show, and they go all out bringing their “circus” to town with new rides of all flavors.
You don’t see these very often.
The show judges the cars on the engine compartments, that’s why they all are open, yes I know it ruins photos and no there’s nothing that can be done about it.

As usual for this event I decided to leave my ride at home and catch a ride with my folks down to Joplin. With all of the travel that I do, it’s good to spend a couple of those weekends a year with them on the road. As I loaded my bags into the back of the truck the rain was pouring down in our little town. We headed south as quick as we could to try to outrun the storm. The route between Gypsum, KS and Joplin, MO has a few turns so every time we out ran the storm we made a turn and drove right back into it for the first 2 hours or so of the trip. 15 or 20 miles in a massive hail storm and torrential downpours were lowlights of Thursday evening’s drive.
Friday morning we assembled some of our friends and headed for Springfield, MO for the swap meet. The Ozarks Antique Auto Club Swap Meet is massive. There is no other way to describe it really. The car corral is usually loaded with good buys and some that are a bit over priced. There are top notch vendors from across the country and a truly staggering amount of individual sellers covering the fairgrounds. I didn’t find anything that I couldn’t live without, actually I had my heart set on an Offenhauser 4bbl intake for my flathead and some matching heads, but some new Royboy computer upgrades had that cash spoken for. Ahhhh, maybe next year.
Then it was back to the host hotel area for the Friday Night pre-party! Tons of folks drove their rides from all over the country to attend the drags and the pre-party. Music was provided by my friends Pushrod and they rocked the party like non-other.
As I mentioned in the last post about my 51 Ford, the car needs new wiring. I asked 5 different people and got 4 different answers on who I should go with for the wiring harness and fuse panel for the 51. Which told me that they all were pretty much the same. I decided to go with a panel and wiring kit from Affordable Street Rods in Peabody, KS. This way I not only know who sold me the pieces, but who built them as well, and the cash stays in Kansas. I’m a big fan of buying local when you can.
So I headed down to Peabody, about an hour from my home to pick up the pieces and finally meet the owner Rex Watson in person. I arrived to find Rex and his brother working on this really nice rod.
Apparently a previous owner hadn’t done a good job of welding in some shot mounts so the boys were fixing them.
You know you do a lot of fab when you’ve spent the money for these kool plastic plugs to mimic the real thing. They look great as wall art too.
Outside another project was getting some fresh air.
While another one waits it’s turn to go under the knife.
Days gone by are a reminder with kool toys like this on the someday list.
The wiring kit and fuse panel look really well built and easy to understand, Rex has also reminded me multiple times that if I have any questions he is only a phone call away. Service, I dig it.
So obviously if you’re reading this you know all about the Royboy Productions Blog… um this is it. But Royboy images and stories can be found all over the internet. The home hub for it all is royboyproductions.com over the coming months I hope to update the site to act as a true hub for all that goes on in the RBP world.
The RBP galleries are all found on SmugMug, over 38,000 images from Austin to Vegas to Chicago and all kinda points in between. This is the main place to go for the visual stories that make up Royboy Productions.
Another great place to keep up with RBP is on Facebook. Pretty much everything flows through that page, links to photo galleries, blog posts, etc. all go through the Royboy page on Facebook.
Keep an eye out for a new Royboy Productions website, there will be a complete overhaul in the next few months to better bring you daily articles on show coverage, feature cars, shop profiles, and car club profiles.
For the last 6 or so years I’ve been traveling to Kansas City each Labor Day weekend for the Greaserama. The show is put on by a group of folks that have become friends of mine called Los Punk Rods. The show is basically about home built hot rods, good music, kustom kulture, low brow art, and just about anything else that’s cool. For the entire time that I’ve been attending the show it’s been held at the Boulevard Drive In, for 2013 that changes, the show will be moving to the Platte County Fairgrounds.
I’ve been attending this show off and on for a lot of years. It’s typically hot, starting at 4 in the afternoon, and as soon as the heat breaks the crowds come out in force making it hard to capture any decent images. The participants are a varied group of all styles of cars and bikes.
5 weeks from now folks from all over the country will be rolling towards Joplin, MO to assemble for the 2013 H.A.M.B. Drags
For the last few years (2012, 2011, 2010) I’ve been heading down to the time capsule that is MO-KAN Dragway in Asbury, MO between Joplin, MO and Pittsburg, KS.
This year the H.A.M.B. Drags are going down on Aug. 17th, many like to get to Joplin early and head and hour or so east on Friday the 16th to check out the huge swap meet. So if you’re going to make the trip to the drags you might as well head over and see if you can snag a deal on that one part you need.

I can’t believe the year is half over already, it seems like just a few weeks ago I was picking my car up from Jeff Myers’ Premier Body & Paint in Arkansas City, KS and headed home with my new old school paint.
Of course on that very trip home the generator finally gave up the ghost. I’d been nursing it for awhile and it was just time to finally do the upgrade, read all about the nightmare that turned into here.
The first event of the year was about 2 weeks after I picked up the car from Jeff, and I was going to be showing the Galaxie for the first time at an indoor show. The legendary Starbird show in Wichita, now the Starbird-Devlin show, but still pretty damn cool for someone that has been going to that show for 30 years. The show was a lot of fun, parking my car with some of the legendary Fundamentals cars was a huge honor. See the show coverage here Part 1, Part 2, Part 3Â and Part 4
The show was just too much fun.

February is always a bit busier than January around here. Kansas City hosts the World of Wheels Autorama, Darryl Starbird does his show in Tulsa, and The Chill goes down in Park City, KS.
Going to KC always means seeing my buddies of Los Punk Rods. They are always working on something interesting. KC WOW Show Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
March is always a bit slow in the area here. This year I went down to The Chill in Denton, TX, it was worth the trip and I plan on going again and again. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
Then a couple of weeks later it was time to head back to Texas for the Goodguys Spring Lonestar Nationals Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5
The first trip of April is typically the Lonestar Roundup in Austin, TX. This was the first time the Galaxie went and it was awesome! Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6 and Art Shots
A couple of weeks later we gathered for the HAMBBQ
The next day I took advantage of a chance to go hang in the pits for the #20 Matt Kenseth car for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
Then it was off to Mulvane, KS to Chaotic Customs for their Open House. Chaotic has been responsible for helping me sort out some of the mechanical issues that were out of my mechanic knowledge or out of my time frame. Thanks! Part 1, Part 2

That’s it for the 2013 Winfield Garage Car Show from my point of view. You need to attend next year, its’ a great little show with a whole bunch of great people at it, only $15 to enter your car and I had a fantastic time.
I shot this entire show so that I could do HDR and play with other aspects of the image, it takes a lot longer to prepare the photos but you’ll see in this post how much more flexibility it gives me when editing.
