Today for part 2 we continue with Friday’s coverage. The image above is of the new Model A by Ricky Bobby’s Rod Shop. The Lonestar Roundup is one of those shows where I know far too many people to get through it efficiently. Most of my day was spent talking with friends and not shooting enough photos, somehow I still ended up back at the hotel with over 1000 images of the day. About half were shot during the mini bike races, most of those were deleted because they weren’t anything special. Stay tuned for the ones that made the cut!

The afternoon was not without incident however. Mercury Charlie had a horrible accident leaving the show in the rain. He is in the hospital now and will be on the mend for awhile but things are looking good for a recovery. The car he was in did not fair so well. In the end, oh well, cars can be recreated, there’s only one of each of us. Please keep Charlie and his friends & family in your thoughts and prayers. Since I needed something to post today anyways I decided to stop at the Meatheads BBQ on the way to Austin yesterday! The Meatheads CC puts on this killer BBQ with amazing food and live music on the Thursday before the Lonestar Roundup each year. The party has turned in to one of THE places to be for the Roundup trip each year. Held kind of in the middle of nowhere outside of Taylor, TX this event is always a great way to star the weekend when rolling down I-35 towards Austin.

Part 3 of the Hot Rod Hundred coverage picks back up about half way through the 100 miles. The cars were spread out by now with folks stopping at various gas stations and such along the route. I had leap frogged the group a couple of times and I honestly wasn’t sure if I was ahead of the pack or in the middle of them. So I parked my car and sat on the side of the road and waited. Just when I thought I was in the wrong spot I heard the rumble of a V8. I picked up my camera and started grabbing shots.

After the cars got on the road I hopped in my daily and followed along. A few miles into the run I found an opportunity to leap frog around the group. While they were enjoying a section of Route 66 I hopped on the nearby interstate and made up some time. It was a pattern that I’d repeat throughout the run. Jumping ahead of the group and shooting some images as the cars went by.

The 28th Annual Donnie Smith Bike show happened this past weekend at the River Centre in Saint Paul.  It is always a huge gathering of both new baggers and good old unrestored classics.  And everything in between.  The addition of the car show upstairs meant even more things to see, along with the usual crowded swap meet area. The faithful turned out in droves to see the entries.  Here are some of the favorites seen at the show.

Back in 2013 I decided to give out an award called the Young Blood Award at the KKOA Leadsled Spectacular. The photo above was an in progress shot of the award being built. Thanks to my friends at Sign House in Salina, KS for building that kool award! So in early 2014 I announced that the award was to be renamed the New Blood Award and I would be giving away not one but two at the 2014 KKOA Leadsled Spectacular, one for a people’s choice that was to be voted on by the public and one that I picked. Then we had a party at the Paramount Bar on Saturday of the KKOA weekend to give the awards away and have some fun!

This week Royboy tells the tale of the 2015 Goodguys Spring Lonestar Nationals in Fort Worth, TX then sits down for a BS session with photographer Trent Sherrill.

The sky remained cloudy all day, occasionally spitting just a tiny bit, but not raining until about 3 in the afternoon. We ran back over to the car and waited it out. After 15-20 minutes it was nice and dry again and we made our way back into the show, walking through the swap meet area. Plenty of nice rides for what seemed like good prices in the swap meet but I was more interested in the show. Making our way back over to the show cars we made a trip through the vendor area to see some friends.

This is another one of those shows that I just have a great time at because of the people. The cars are secondary, that’s the way it should be in my book.

My friend Jeff showed up in his new to him 56 Chevy. A nice looking ride that a friend of his rebuilt. A couple of years ago the previous owner built up the stock 6 cylinder and after driving it for a year or so he decided he needed a couple more cylinders. The straight 6 came up to KS on my dad’s trailer and the 56 was now capable of keeping up with modern interstate traffic with no problem.

The very first car I see as I drive in the north tunnel at Texas Motor Speedway for the 2015 Goodguys Spring Lonestar Nationals is this beautiful 57 Ford 2 door wagon. While the weather forecast kept the crowd away there were still some beautiful rides that showed up. The forecasted rain didn’t really show up until about 3pm which is when most people start leaving shows anyhow. I had a great time hanging with friends and seeing some cool rides, enjoy the photos below!
